Career guidance in South Africa
Career guidance is the whole journey of choosing, changing or growing a career with confidence. Understand what it involves, who it helps, and how to get started - free guides and assessments, or a one-on-one session when you want personal help.
Career guidance is a structured process that helps you choose, change or grow a career that fits your interests, strengths, values and the job market. It brings together honest self-assessment, reliable information about study and work options, and practical advice - so your decision rests on evidence rather than guesswork. It isn't a single test that names one 'correct' job; it's a way of thinking you'll use at every stage of life.

Career guidance FAQ
What is career guidance?+
Career guidance is a structured process that helps you choose, change or grow a career that fits your interests, strengths, values and the job market. It combines self-assessment, reliable career information and one-on-one advice so decisions are made on evidence rather than guesswork.
Is career guidance free in South Africa?+
Some of it is. School Life Orientation and national services such as Khetha are free, and this site offers free guides and a free career assessment. More in-depth, personal support - a private assessment or a one-on-one session - is usually paid, but you can start for free and only book a session if you want deeper help.
What is the difference between career guidance, counselling and coaching?+
They overlap. 'Career guidance' is the broad umbrella - information, assessment, advice and planning. 'Career counselling' tends to describe deeper one-on-one work, often around indecision or a major change. 'Career coaching' is more forward-looking and action-focused, helping you set goals and keep momentum. In practice a good session blends all three.
